This award recognizes an individual who has distinguished themselves in northern Nevada through their inspiration, dedication, motivation, or acts of kindness. Eligible nominees must be located in PBS Reno’s northern Nevada and northeastern California viewing areas.

Mena Spodobalski founded the nonprofit, Evoke Warriors.  This is a 6-month program designed for individuals with a cancer diagnosis.  This is done with a comprehensive program that has multiple facets that includes fitness, a nutritionist, life coaching and camaraderie with people who understand the terrible toll a cancer diagnosis takes on your physical and mental health. No matter where they start the journey, participants come to a place of greater fitness, confidence and with a support system of peers.

Sharon Chamberlain has served as the Chief Executive Officer at Northern Nevada HOPES since August 2011. Under Sharon’s leadership, HOPES has undergone a tremendous expansion, from a small HIV service organization serving 600 patients, to a growing community health center that serves over 12,500 men, women, and children in Northern Nevada. Sharon is an extraordinary leader and visionary in our community because of her awe-inspiring past experience and devotion to her community.

Kay Young and Shi Morris are two people, but they function as one unit who loves and supports the Northern Nevada/Reno community in every way they can. As University of Nevada, Reno instructors, they strive to impact the lives of their students. They are also the chairs of Squeeze In, a delightful breakfast and lunch restaurant that originated in Truckee, California and has spread into Northern Nevada. Through their role on the board, they have led community support initiatives and are always looking for innovative ways to support the community through fundraisers, sponsorship participation in community events and donations.
