Kris is the Managing Editor for the Reno News & Review and the editor and founder of Double Scoop, a nonprofit news site that covers Nevada’s fast-growing visual arts community.
Inspired by the late Kirk Robertson’s Nevada arts newspaper Neon, Vagner in 2018 founded Double Scoop, a nonprofit news site that covers Nevada’s fast-growing visual arts community. She earned a master’s degree in Media Innovations from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2019. She has contributed arts and culture reporting to dozens of regional and national publications; has worked as an artist; taught elementary school and college; hiked just about every trail in the region; and has helped on a handful of large Burning Man installations.
“There’s so much happening in the Reno art world,” Vagner said. “We have a thriving DIY gallery scene, some great homegrown institutions, and museums that bring us the world. Plus, our region is home to artists of all stripes; landscape painters, makerspace builders, Burning Man sculptors, potters, hi-tech and lo-fi creators, and artists from just about every background. I’m excited to share some of their stories with the PBS Reno audience.”
