PBS Reno to Debut Holiday High School Chorus Special
Inaugural locally produced program features more than 100 students from area high schools

RENO, NV (NOVEMBER 27, 2024) — PBS Reno will debut Holiday High School Chorus Special on Monday, Dec. 2 at 7:30pm on PBS Reno channel 5.1 and Spectrum channel 785, as well as the PBS Reno livestream and PBS Reno YouTube channel.

“Through the Holiday High School Chorus Special, we had the pleasure of inviting more than 100 local students to our studio and capturing their incredible performances,” said Megan Myers, PBS Reno Vice President of Content. “To be able to feature our local youth and talent, and create a quality program that showcases this talent, is what we do best. This kind of program blends so well with what we strive to accomplish at PBS Reno, which is to not just provide quality programming, but to highlight our extraordinary community and the people who make it unique. This new holiday special is sure to become a favorite for years to come!”

Holiday High School Chorus Special features the choir programs from four local high schools: Hug High School, McQueen High School, Reed High School, and Damonte Ranch High School. PBS Reno recorded the students over three days at the PBS Reno studios. Selections ranged from a capella to live piano accompaniment; other songs included choreography and solo performances. With guidance from their respective choir directors, the students delivered spirited performances that were captured for PBS Reno viewers to enjoy during the holiday season. Funding for this special was provided by several community donors, and marks the first time PBS Reno has produced this holiday special.

“We are thrilled to have collaborated with PBS Reno on the holiday chorus project, offering an incredible opportunity for students from four high schools to experience the television recording studio process firsthand,” said Amy Barthel, Visual & Performing Arts Coordinator for the Washoe County School District. “Their outstanding performances will be broadcast multiple times, allowing their families and friends to enjoy their talents on TV throughout the holidays. This positive and rewarding experience is one we hope to make an annual tradition, providing even more students with the chance to shine in future projects. We are grateful to PBS Reno for its longstanding support of our students, and the partnership that makes these projects possible.”
