JOB TITLE: Director of Membership
REPORTS TO: VP of Development
DEPARTMENT: Development

JOB SUMMARY
The Membership Director plays a pivotal role in strengthening PBS Reno’s relationship with its members and donors while spearheading efforts to expand our membership base. This position requires a strategic leader who is innovative, data-driven, and highly collaborative. The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising, marketing, or donor engagement, with a strong ability to analyze performance data and refine strategies accordingly.
The Membership Director will oversee membership acquisition and retention, direct on-air fundraising campaigns, manage digital and traditional fundraising strategies, and lead membership events and initiatives. This role involves close collaboration with marketing, broadcast, and development teams to maximize impact and revenue.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Provide strategic leadership for PBS Reno’s membership program, developing and executing innovative strategies to increase donor retention, engagement, and acquisition.
- Supervise and mentor the Membership Representative and Membership Outreach Coordinator, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Analyze fundraising trends and performance data to make informed, data-driven decisions that enhance PBS Reno’s fundraising success.
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
- Develop and execute annual membership growth plans, ensuring alignment with PBS Reno’s strategic goals.
- Lead on-air fundraising efforts in collaboration with the broadcast department, optimizing strategies and messaging based on performance analytics.
- Work closely with marketing and creative teams to design and implement effective social media, email, and digital fundraising campaigns.
- Oversee donor communication strategies, including direct mail appeals, email outreach, and membership stewardship efforts.
- Identify opportunities for deeper engagement with donors, including upgrading members to major giving levels, corporate sponsorships, or planned giving initiatives.
Event & Partnership Management
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns, fostering strong relationships between PBS Reno and its supporters.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and consultants, ensuring the effectiveness of outsourced membership services.
Data Management & Performance Analysis
- Supervise and evaluate the partnership with CDP Member Services Bureau, ensuring efficient donor processing and data accuracy.
- Monitor key performance indicators, providing reports and recommendations to senior leadership based on fundraising outcomes and trends.
- Maintain and oversee PBS Reno’s donor database (CRM), ensuring data integrity and leveraging insights to improve engagement strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Passion for public media and PBS Reno’s mission.
- Proven experience in fundraising, membership development, marketing, or sales (minimum 3 years).
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and mentoring staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and inspire donors.
- Ability to analyze fundraising data, track key performance metrics, and implement data-driven strategies.
- Experience with digital fundraising, direct mail campaigns, and donor CRM platforms preferred.
- Budget management experience, including forecasting and financial reporting.
- High level of initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- CRM database experience preferred (e.g., Salesforce or similar).
